A Group Trip holds many bookings under one shared itinerary, and each individual booking is a Sub-Trip. A Sub-Trip is linked to its Group Trip but otherwise behaves like an independent regular trip: it has the same tabs, the same proposal builder, and the same bookings, payments, and messaging tools you already use. The one capability a Sub-Trip adds on top of a regular trip is optional add-ons, covered below. For how Group Trips fit together overall, see Group Trips Overview.
What a Sub-Trip is
A Sub-Trip is a single booking record inside a Group Trip: one traveler, a couple, a family, or a shared cabin. It inherits the shared group itinerary as its starting proposal while letting you manage that booking's own travelers, selections, payments, and authorizations independently. You create and open Sub-Trips from the Sub-Trips section on the Group Trip's Overview tab.
How Sub-Trips are created
A Sub-Trip can come into being two ways:
Automatically through signup: when you publish and share the Group Trip's landing page, a traveler fills in their details and selections on the signup form and submits it, which creates their Sub-Trip automatically. The agent receives an email notification about the new Sub-Trip signup, and that same email also appears in the Group Trip's Messages tab. The Sub-Trip shows up in the Sub-Trips section on the Overview tab. See Create and Manage Landing Pages.
Manually by the agent: you can add a Sub-Trip yourself from the Sub-Trips section.
Submitting the signup form is what creates the Sub-Trip. Authorizing payment is a separate step the traveler completes by logging in, and it isn't required for the Sub-Trip to be created.
Creating a Sub-Trip manually doesn't skip signup. When you share the trip with the traveler, they still complete the signup form to confirm their details and selections. As with any Sub-Trip, authorizing payment is a separate step and isn't required for the Sub-Trip to exist.
By default, a Sub-Trip is named with the Group Trip name followed by the primary traveler's name, for example "Song of Antarctica - Katie Williams." You can rename a Sub-Trip at any time from the Settings control on the Sub-Trip page.

Working inside a Sub-Trip
Open a Sub-Trip by clicking its row in the Sub-Trips table. It opens on its Overview tab and works just like a regular trip, with the same left-hand tabs: Overview, Proposals, Tasks, Forms, Travelers, Bookings, Payments, Insurance, Messages, Notes, and Documents. Everything in those areas behaves exactly as it does in a regular trip, so the existing articles apply directly, for example Build a Basic Proposal, Understanding the Bookings Tab, and Payment Schedule & Authorization Requests.
The Sub-Trip's Proposals tab starts from the shared group itinerary, now scoped to this booking and reflecting the traveler's own selections and authorizations. You build, edit, and approve it the same way you would any proposal.

Optional add-ons (the one Sub-Trip difference)
Optional add-ons are the single capability available in Group Trips, and therefore Sub-Trips, that regular trips don't have yet. An optional add-on is a trip component the traveler can choose whether to include; its price applies only if selected.
You set this up on a component's Pricing & Booking tab in the proposal builder, using the Make this an optional add-on toggle. When it's on, you can assign the add-on to specific travelers from the Add Optional Add-On checklist, and travelers can also opt in themselves during signup. For the full setup, see Manage Optional Add-Ons.

Within a Sub-Trip, you then manage each traveler's add-ons:
Items the traveler selected show a "Selected by [traveler name]" indicator with a Reset selections option. Resetting asks you to confirm, since it removes all travelers assigned to that activity, and returns the item to its unselected state so it can be chosen again by you or the traveler.
Items the traveler hasn't selected keep their optional tag, and you can add one on the traveler's behalf using Add for Travelers, which lists the travelers on that Sub-Trip.
Approving a Sub-Trip's proposal
Approve the Sub-Trip's proposal the same way you approve any proposal, after which it carries the Itinerary tag. Any optional add-ons not opted into stay optional: they appear under Bookings with the optional tag and a rate rather than a set price, their cost is not included in the trip price, and they don't appear on the invoice unless you or the traveler opt in later.
